Nantucket Memorial Airport - ACK

While there is a parking area near the terminal at Nantucket Memorial Airport, parking is limited and shared by the employees, rental cars, shuttles, and passenger vehicles. In 1997, the Airport Commission scaled back parking in an effort to encourage passengers to use alternate means of transportation, including taxis and the shuttle to town. Most of the lot is only open in the day time. Cars left overnight in the short-term area (towards the terminal) are towed and fined over $500. Those who need overnight parking must proceed to the back of the lot and pay the nightly fee of $20.

Handicapped Parking

There is currently a little confusion regarding handicapped transportation and parking at the Nantucket Memorial Airport. Handicapped passengers can rest assured that the airport will certainly strive to meet everyone's needs, but within the island of Nantucket, the local government issues special disability plates. The disagreement within the town has been over who is responsible for handing disabled passengers' needs. While nothing is listed in the official law books, there is research being made to find out if it is the airport's responsibility or the taxi and shuttle companies'.

Handicapped passengers should call the airport first and tell them when they plan to arrive at the airport to ensure that the airport has everything in place to make outgoing or incoming flights as smooth as possible for that handicapped passenger.

Other Parking Options

Few hotels offer parking for those flying out. Locals leave their cars at home and take taxis or the shuttle to the airport. If it is necessary to find other parking options, use on of the town lots or the ferry lots where the parking rates vary from $10 to $15 per day. These lots fill up quickly, so reservations in the ferry lots are recommended. The shuttle travels to these lots regularly.
